Metron4 is a UK manufactured data collection hub that transfers data collected from fuel tank gauges and sensors to a Cloud database called Metronview.
Vectec uses the Metron 4 as a device to measure the level of liquid in storage tanks. The level can be shown on the display of the device and transmitted to the Metronview website at regular intervals.
Metronview allows the user to see the latest and historic readings. It can also be configured to create alerts based on thresholds being reached. These alerts can be sent to users in the form of email alerts.
The Metron 4 utilises pressure probes that sit at bottom of the tank and effectively weigh the fuel. This reading is then converted to a volume in litres by the processor located in the Metron 4. The Metron 4 can be connected to 4 devices. This could be four pressure probes to monitor the contents of different tanks or a combination of pressure probes and floats to create alarms, for bund contents for example.
Our preferred pressure probes are accurate to +/- 0.25% over the range of the tank. They can be calibrated using an incremental fill or by creating a strapping table to describe the profile of the tank. We have a library of such strapping tables to apply to odd-shaped plastic tanks.
Metron 4 is able to also monitor for theft or leakages by calculating the rate of change over a given period. If the level drops by more than 500 litres in 5 minutes, for example, it will generate an alert which can trigger a local alarm and transmit the alert to MetronView which will then generate email alerts to authorised people.
